With his small portable workbench, sculptor François Pompon (1855–1933) enjoyed strolling through Paris's Jardin des Plantes (public park and botanical garden). There, he could observe animals and make models of them on a small scale. Back in his studio, he carved bears, panthers, but also dogs, chickens, and rabbits, finding the essence of each animal by simplifying shapes. Before the eyes of visitors to the Musée d'Orsay, where a large number of these sculptures are housed, the animals come to life! His sculptures were reinterpreted by artist Gérard Lo Monaco and, in collaboration with RMN (an association of 34 museums) and the Musée d'Orsay, pays tribute to Pompon by producing this magnificent range of wooden toys.
